We are a social group that aims to be the best social, sport and charity fundraising group in the Havering area.

It doesn't matter whether you are a shy or outgoing person, male or female as long as you are aged between 18 and 30 and are interested in either one or more of the following: social, sport or charity events, then Rotaract is for you, and it will give you the opportunity to make new friends and broaden your horizons.

We currently have 17 members that have varying interests, backgrounds and whom live in a range of areas.   We have 2 official meetings each month where the club committee (including: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Sport Liaison, Social Liaison, International Liaison, Publicity Liaison) and all the other club members get together to share ideas, and decide what events and activities to do or organise.

The Havering Rotaract Club usually does something social at least once a week whether it be going to the pub, cinema, 10 pin bowling, BBQ, etc.   The club does collections and participates in sponsored events to raise funds for charities several times a year. The club also participates in sporting competitions with other Rotaract Clubs in the Essex District.

There are 9 clubs in the Essex District (also called District 1240). A recent collaboration of the senior committee members among the clubs in the Essex District, has led to a north vs south type divide within the Essex District so that competitions can be held successfully between large groups for events like paint-ball and go-karting. The South Essex Rotaract Clubs are: Havering, Brentwood, Basildon, Maldon and Southend. The North Essex Rotaract Clubs are: Chelmsford, Braintree, Colchester and Clacton.

For more information please call either Dan on 07974 364 781 or Lindsey 01708 449339. You can join us on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 8:30pm in the R.A.F.A club, 14 Carlton Road, Romford, Essex.   You can also email us.

We are going to Amsterdam in May in force and this more International than Social event has been made possivle due to efforts of Jo (International) and Lindsey (Secretary) and also their credit cards that paid for every one!   Now that they have been reimbursed in full we can all smile, catch the plane and enjoy the weekend   I'm looking forward to getting some photos worthy of putting up on this site! Watch this space...

Well, we went to the London Eye on 24 February and we all enjoyed it, even those with vertigo.   We had a good view of London as the weather was nice and sunny.   We also visited the UK's largest screen cinema, the Imax at London Waterloo.   We saw "Encounters in the Third Dimension" which was good but I think a few of us will go back there soon to see another film like the new "Cyberworld" - the world's first animated 3D film.

Our 3rd Charted Night was on Sat 11th November - An evening of entertainment, food and dancing celebrating the Club's 3rd Anniversary.   We saw 115 people at the event with representatives from almost all of the Rotaract Clubs in Essex and from 3 of our local Rotary Clubs.   We put on a cabaret with 4 guys and 5 girls leaping and spinning in authentic lycra 'Fame style' costumes to guess what 'Fame' music!  Then it was the Rotaract angels, Charlie only wishes he could get close to these girls??? &mbsp; Finally there was a Blues Brothers dance with 5 guys in suits and shades and 5 girls looking like French maids!  This was the enthralling entertainment that we provided   A very nice meal and a groovy disco finished off the event.   It wss an excellent night out.

We visited Chessington World of Adventures in September. We all had a good time.

We also had a couple of barbecues in August and September along with several visits to pubs, restuarants and a few other things.

One of the most notable visits to date was a trip to the Millennium Dome. Where we enjoyed Black Adder Back & Forth and several of the attractions.   Some of us played several games of table football (a 30 foot long table).   Where, only one of us could have possibly been sent off, and he was promptly shown the red card by the female ref (for spinning his players!)

We have won a few district sports events, including the ten pin bowling in spring 2000.   We ran a golf competition in summer 2000.   Other sporting events in the second half of 2000 included patanque and tug-of-war.   We came 3rd in the district bowling on 15 October 2000, however there seemed to be a few very experienced players in the winning teams, so we were pleased with our result.   The first North Essex vs South Essex challenge should take place soon...

The last sporting event was Laserquest (Feb 2001.)   Consisting mainly of members from Braintree (the hosts of the event) and Havering although there were a few members from other clubs as well.   The first game was a warm up with all the newcomers like ourselves struggling to operate the guns.   However, we won the second game once we adapted to the equipment.   Ultimately resulting in a draw between Havering and Braintree, I believe.

Havering Rotaract have just donated £345.   Money raised through our fund raising activities - a quiz night, boot sale, and a raffle   These funds are shared between:
P.D.S.A.
St. Francis Hospice
Essex Air Ambulance
The Childrens Society

Our next fund raising event will be the Havering Rotaract Blind Auction. Coming Soon...

We contributed to the regeneration of some wasteland into gardens to be used by Mencap in summer 2000,

We took part in the Olympic 250km cycle ride which aimed to get people from every club in the district taking part.   Dan and myself (Clint) both started the sponsored cycle however Dan boasted "I don't need any practice, 'cause I'm a natural athlete" beforehand.   Well those words were to huant him because he had to withdraw from the cycle ride after 70km.   The route was:
Day 1, Brentwood-Havering-Witham-Southend-Malden;
Day 2, Malden-Clacton-Colchester-Braintree-Chelmsford-Brentwood.

We collected money for the R.A.F.A.(Royal Air Force Association) Wings Appeal in December 2000
